Half Moon Mare

Sometimes life doesn’t turn out like we hope it will. On our tour last week, we came upon a stallion and mare along our travels. The mare was lying down, and it didn’t look good. As we moved closer, it was evident that she had tried to give birth to a foal, but nothing was really happening.

Her mate tried to nudge her and nip at her to get up. He yawned wide which shows he was much stressed. We gave them their space, and did not try to get too close. We always hope to see the mustangs especially the young foals with their family herds healthy and happy.

The following day, the mare with a half moon marking on her forehead was grazing nearby with her stallion. The two of them will continue on, however, their offspring this year will not accompany them. Nature holds hardships and beauty that continues to touch our hearts.
